Non-Deterministic Location Model on PDA ́s for Fairs, Exhibitions and Congresses

The launch of the first official electronic exhibition guide (eGuide) for palmsized computers at the CeBIT established a new generation of personal assistants for fairs and exhibitions. Meanwhile the electronic guides have been used on world biggest trade-fairs as well as house-shows and congresses. Mobile information systems require an useful guiding functionality with maximal personal freedom. Some in-door location sensors are based on cellular infrastructure and are not precisely enough to determine the exact position of the user. The distraction by the flood of information should be minimized. These requirements have to be fulfilled with resource restricted handheld computers. To solve these problems a novel non-deterministic location model will be introduced. This report describes the concept of the new model and the techniques of representing huge areas of up to one million square meters on ultra mobile devices such as PalmPilots or pocketPCs.
